Preparation Time 15 minutes
Cooking Time 30 minutes
Difficulty Easy Peasy (1/5)

  • Fruit bread (12 slices)
  • Brown sugar
  • Sultanas
  • butter
  • 4 eggs
  • A pint and a half of whole milk.

  1. Take your 12 slices of bread
  2. Butter your bread on both sides.
  3. Stack the buttered bread up.One piece on top of the other.
  4. Slice the bread carefully using a sharp knife.
  5. Make a single layer of bread on the bottom of your pan
  6. On top of the layer put a handful of sultanas.
  7. Take one tablespoon of brown sugar and crumble over the top.
  8. Put the milk into a bowl.
  9. Add the eggs and mix.
  10. Pour the milk and egg mixture over the first layer to saturate - you do not want the milk level higher than the sultanas.
  11. Repeat...
  12. For the last layer, do not add sultanas or raisins - only the brown sugar again.
  13. Add milk liberally and press down slightly.
  14. Put into the oven at 180 deg C for approximately 25 minutes.
  15. Serve with either custard or cream (or on its own).
